Over time, your bathtub can definitely start showing its age. It is not surprising to see tubs with scratches, cracks, gouges or even burns! Now that you're tired of your old tub, what can be done? You can buy a new bathtub, but you'll spend a quite a bit:

* Bathtubs are not a small ticket item to begin with.
* You will need to pay a professional to remove the old tub.
* Similarly, bathtub installation requires some skill, so you will probably need to hire someone again.
* The removal and installation process is time consuming, sometimes taking a couple of weeks, so you will not be able to use your tub.

Before you buy a new bathtub, examine some of the other choices available.

Alternatives To Replacing Your Bathtub

1. Bathtub Repainting: You can have your tub repainted. While DIY kits are available, it can be a tricky process, so hiring someone is usually advisable. Even if you hire someone, this will usually be done in a day, and beats buying a new tub. It is a good way to give your tub a shiny new look, maybe even a new color!

2. Bathtub Refinishing: Refinishing your tub gives it a new surface which can last 20 years or more. Refinishing is also usually done within a day.

3. New Bathtub Lining: A liner, or new outer surface, is another quick way to make your tub look great.

4. Bathtub Surrounds: While this does not do anything to the tub itself, the area around it looks better.

Hopefully, one of these options can be used, but there are times when the tub is not worth saving, and you may have no choice but to replace the bathtub completely.
